The Liu Pulmonary Hypertension Clinical Trials Center Pulmonary Hypertension Center, directed by Dr. Ronald Oudiz, is a stand-alone evaluation and treatment center for patients with pulmonary vascular diseases. It contains an office for a senior Research Nurse Coordinator and also acts as a meeting room for research sponsors and guests. A second office is for an Assistant Research and Clinical Nurse Coordinator. There are two patient examination/consultation rooms, and an updated waiting room, with comfortable seating areas, a DVD/VCR player and flat panel monitor for patient education, and a private bathroom. Adjacent to this area is a state-of-the-art, computerized Cardiopulmonary Exercise Laboratory, and a small lab space for phlebotomy and file storage.
The Liu Pulmonary Hypertension Clinical Trials Center conducts clinical research in patients with pulmonary vascular disease. This research focuses on the following diagnostic and treatment modalities in patients with pulmonary vascular disease:
1.Noninvasive measurements of gas exchange during exercise
2.Effects of treatment on aerobic capacity and ventilator efficiency
3.Prognostic value of cardiopulmonary exercise testing
4.Exercise rehabilitation as a novel treatment
The Liu Pulmonary Hypertension Clinical Trials Center has been funded by several sources, including the American Heart Association, NIH/NCRR, GCRC (CREFF) and industry-sponsored clinical trials.
