The Perinatal Clinical Research Center (PCRC) is one of the specialized units of the General Clinical Research Center. The PCRC is dedicated to improving the outcome of pregnancy and the health of mothers and infants. The PCRC provides investigators the unique opportunity to conduct research in the medical units where infants and mothers receive routine care.
PCRC Core Unit and Office
- PCRC nurses office and laboratory are directly adjacent to labor & delivery and hospital nurseries for immediate specimen processing and storage
Services Available to Investigators Conducting Research
- Consultation with investigators in the planning and development of research protocols.
- Subject identification and assistance obtaining informed consent.
- Data collection/coordination.
- Sample collection including blood, urine, and tissue specimens.
- Fetal monitoring
- Infant, pediatric, adult phlebotomy and I.V. techniques
- Non-diagnostic ultrasonography
- Education for those who may be involved in the research study - subjects and families, nurses, housestaff, etc.
Staffing
- The PCRC staff consists of an Assistant Program Director and three registered nurses with strong clinical experience and extensive additional research training, and one research assistant. The staff have backgrounds in high- and low-risk obstetrics, normal newborn care, neonatal intensive care, pediatric emergency room and pediatric intensive care. All staff members are bilingual.
Hours/Contact information
- The PCRC main office is located on 7 East at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center close to the healthy newborn nursery, intermediate care nursery, labor, delivery, and post-partum units. PCRC outpatient studies can also be performed in the GCRC Outpatient Unit .
- Monday - Friday, 7 am to 6 pm (hours of availability may vary depending on project needs)
